Thoughts on Animal Testing

I think that all animals should be somewhat treated the same. Why? Because not all animals have feelings. For example, if a dog starts chasing you you're not going to treat it the same as if a venomous snake was chasing you. So, not necessarily all animals should be treated the same.
In my opinion, I don't think we should test on animals because it's just such a heartless thing to do. Even if it's to save 1,000,000 lives, it wouldn't be worth it. Many of those people have done harm to animals so why would it be a good thing? Just something to think about.

I've learned that mutations are random and you're not able to prevent these.
Hederochromia is the one I'm most interested mutation I've learned so far. I think I like this one the best because it's something rare that doesn't happen on everyone.
I somewhat liked sketchnoting but it all felt so rapid I barely caught things on paper. I would try to get more information next time.

About me

As you can see, my name is Wanda Barrientos. I'm a gymnast and I love playing sports. I'm currently attending Freedom Middle School and I'm in 8th grade and so far I've been liking the changes in between days. I feel like a change is good once in a while instead of sticking to the same routine every day. In my opinion I've been doing decent in biology. I find it interesting learning about everything humans go through and have.

Intro poetry reflection

1.) I think that a poem should have meaningful/thoughts/words/feelings & stories that can help you understand life better? Or make you look at things differently.

2.) it shouldn't have miss spelled words. It also has to make sence because you need to be able to understand it.

3.) I noticed that some were talking about something random but used very specific and smart words.

4.) I saw that these poems still express everything that they're thinking about whether it's irrelevant or not.

42 reflection

Discrimination for me isn't necessarily about skin color, for me discrimination is sort of like racism, because you're technically discriminating someone or being racist and just judging them. It's not accepting someone for who they really are. When you expect the same thing from every single person. We're all different but a discriminator would hate admitting that. They only want to see the same exact thing on everyone. For example, they would hate gay marriage. All they want is for everyone to be like them exactly. No flaws or anything, because they can't seem to understand that everyone is different and makes them unique. At least, that's in my opinion of course.

When is there dignity in silence?

If the principal accuses you of something that you didn't do you should explain calmly.
If a younger sibling calls you names to make you angry you should stay silent to make them angry.
If the referee make a call you think is unfair you should explain calmly.
And if a friend yells at you for calling a play against him you should yell back.

There are a lot of times where I wished I would've stayed silent but instead I talked back and got punished for it, but oh well. I guess that's how I learned my lesson, or at least I'm in the process of it.

Blog 16: writing workshop

I decided to work on writing. My writing was about how much love I have for this one kid. This kid shows so much care for me. He reminds me why I'm worthy and why people would be so lucky to have me as a friend. He loves me so much and I love him. That what I wrote about. About how I feel so worth it when I'm with him. "He makes me feel so worthy that I forget all the negative I have done to myself."

14 (Alternate Ending)

Chapter 24

Jonas decided to slide down the hill with Gabriel. When they were sliding they both felt happiness. Gabriel had finally felt feelings. He felt love for Jonas. It was starting to get dark out "We better be aware Gabe," he said nervously. "They'll be returning soon." Jonas decided to grab his bicycle, the sled and Gabe. He walked for hours in search of food, for both of them. Every single little piece of food Jonas found he gave to Gabe first hoping to have some left for himself.
Gabriel's health was all he thought about throughout the whole journey. Of course he still put thought into himself but Gabe came first. After hours of walking he finally found a place to lay and rest with Gabe. The problem was that it was a place were it was warm and with that warmness it was easier to tell whether a person was there hiding or not. Jonas leaned his bicycle on a tree a laid down on the floor with Gabe beside him.
Gabriel heard the planes coming towards them, he immediately started screaming "Plane! Plane!" Jonas woke up, hoping to still have some memories of coldness. He thought it was over, he thought they were going to get caught. Jonas then remembered that he had just been in the snow sliding down the hill with Gabriel. When they were both sliding down, they were going fast and they both felt a cold breeze. He used that memory to hide their body's warmness in order for them to not be found.
They were trying to keep the memory going, but Jonas needed to leave some for later just incase. So they stopped remembering and they got caught. Jonas looking at Gabriel with sympathy said "The plane was suppose to leave, they weren't supposed to see anything other than a bicycle!" By then, the Path-Maintenance crew was already walking toward them.
They were freaked out, Jonas decided to make a bad decision. He immediately grabbed Gabe and his bicycle and started peddling away. They got pretty far away from the plane. But Jonas still had in mind that a plane and a bicycle were nothing alike. He decided to use that last piece of memory of the slide when he heard the plane coming towards them. This time he used it all, nothing left. Jonas was scared, he didn't know what to do, but all he knew was that he disliked that feeling. Gabriel in the other hand didn't really know what was going on but he knew that something was off. "We'll be heading back to Elsewhere and slide down the hill for while?" Jonas said, "does that sound fun?" Hoping to make Gabriel happy and feel unthreatened. They went back the next day early in the morning, being so much more careful of course. Jonas knew what he was doing and why. He felt confident, and he loved that feeling.
They had so much fun and Jonas got what he wanted. He was able to make more memories with the cold weather for the next emergency. They decided it was time to go somewhere far, somewhere were no one would ever think they would be at. So they took a path full of trees, and Jonas started seeing a color on the leaves.
"Do you see that Gabe?" Gabriel not knowing what Jonas was talking about just looked at the boring and plain old grey leaves.
"Do you see the color?" Jonas asking with so much excitement turned and looked at Gabriel. He saw how confused he looked, so he figured that Gabe couldn't see the different kind of color he was looking at. "I've seen this color before, I just don't know where." He started going through all of his memories shuffling them hoping to remember such an important thing. "I remember now!" He screamed with excitement "The Giver gave me this exact color as a memory." Remembering the color, Jonas was so convinced. "Yes! The color's name is .. Orange. Yes, I think that's what it's called. Orange." He remembered some memories being confused thinking that they should have been green because that's what he had seen in some of the Giver's memories.
Still doubting himself and his vision, they kept walking. Not knowing that the crew had been watching them all along. It was against the rules to run away especially to escape once they had already found them. They kept walking and walking until they found a similar place like the Elsewhere. He looked up at the sign, "Welcome to Colorville." Jonas was so confused but decided to explore not knowing that he was leading the crew all along. Once the crew got here they called for back up not knowing what they were getting into. Once Jonas stepped inside, all he saw was colors. He didn't know all of them but he loved them all.
"Can you see it Gabriel? Are you looking at what I'm looking at?" Gabriel nodded, followed by a "yesh!" Jonas thinking that Gabriel was lying pointed at the color red, and asked Gabriel to point at something else with the same exact color. Gabriel then pointed at a shiny red car. Now Jonas knowing that Gabriel could finally see all the different color's they explored together trying to learn all the different names of each an every single color. The crew stepped into the new discovered village. They saw color's too and they were amazed but they were still in search for Jonas and Gabe. Back up came a while after and started inspecting the village. Liking it of course, they still had to punish Jonas and Gabe for escaping. Not being able to say bye to each other they released Jonas and Gabe had been given to a different couple.

Blog 12: this or that

I would rather pick being unknown while I'm alive and recognized while I'm dead because that way people will remember me or at least still know me while I'm dead. People can talk about me through out so many years and I would never get boring.

Bog 12: legacy

I sometimes wish to be known for some quotes that I've made up and some writing. I also want to be known as a gymnast. I hope they remember all the good, I don't want them to forget any of the bad. The reason why I don't want them to forget all of the bad is because I'm not perfect. I'm not someone who's only made good choices. I don't want them to think that I was a perfect. I want them to know that I've made bad choices at one point and that it helped me through the rest.

Blog ten: understanding

I think that since its Jonas' point of view I understand it a little bit better because it technically from a child's point of view. If it would've been from his mothers point of view I feel as if I would have understand it but a little bit less just because she might use some kind of different wording.

Blog Eight: Freedom

Establishing Justice challenges today's society because not everyone thinks the same. Some people are racist and wish bad for others. In he article that we read talked about how a police officer shot an African American. Justice is a challenge for some people. Not everyone's fair with everyone either because of they're color or where they come from. I think that justice and being fair isn't a problem in The Giver because everyone's the same. Everyone thinks and does everything the same, there is no jealousy and there is racism. In other cases, some people do support justice and freedom. Some people aren't racist and are fair with others no matter the color or where they're from.

Blog seven: Jonas' POV change

His point of view is changing from others because he became The Reciever of Memory and now everything changed. He has a different point of view of his life and his society now. Ever since he found out that he was going to be able to lie and since he found out that The Giver was able to transfer memory into him. Jonas started thinking that maybe he wasn't the only one who was able to lie. Maybe his parents assignment also included that rule, but he had no way of knowing, if he asked they could lie. (68)

Blog six: New chapter Title

chapter 9: Do you lie?
I chose to name this chapter "Do you lie?" Because in the book it all has to do with rule number 8. That's how the mistery begins. "Rule 8. You may lie".

Blog three: What if?

If I had to pick between these two societies I would prefer to be in my society. I would like to be in mine because first of all I'm already used to it. I already know all the rules. I also think that you have more freedom in my society than in Jonas', and I like freedom so I prefer mine.

Blog Four: Unity Through Conformity?

I think that Jonas thinks that his community isn't a really hard society to live in because he already lives there. He's already used to all his rules. For people that live in this society including me must think that it's a hard world to live in since it has too many rules and not enough freedom like the one we're used to having. People being the same creates Unity because you work the same
And act the same, because everybody's following the same rules. They're all the same.

Some of the things that are similar to out world would be some rules! Our society also has rules. Another similar rule would be that China can also only have two kids! You are also aloud to adopt children and treat them like your own.

Some things that are different once again would be the rules. In the Giver there are a lot of rules. for example you can only get a bike at the age of 9. You'll also be giver a name at the age of 1. In the real world you have freedom and you are aloud to do whatever you want. For example you can ride a bike. Whenever you want and you also have to have a name when you're born.

Blog One: Career choices

I think that a pro for someone to pick a career for me would be that they probably know what's best for me. I also think that on the bright side I think that someone picking a career for me at 12 years old is a good idea because then I'll already know what my future might look like. They also must have a good reason why they picked that career for me.

One con would be that even though they might know what career is best for me that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to enjoy and like the career that they picked for me. If I don't like my career what's the point about working in it? I'll have to go everyday, I'll have to put up with it. I think that in order for me to enjoy my career I have to like it and at the same time the career has to have something good it it for me too.
